Congratulations to Branch 108 member Cde Doug MacDonald and to Peter Porter, husband of member Susan McBride-Porter on their selection as recipients of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal.  Local NDP MP Sylvain Chicoine made the presentation of the medals on October 11th as family, friends and comrades looked on.

Comrades C. Yarysh and D. Hughes were presented a cheque for $2000.00 from the Minister of Transportation, M. Pierre Moreau, on May 25, 2012.

This cheque was accorded to The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 108 from the Support Volunteer Work Program "so that our organization can continue to achieve our goals."

There is an unfortunate rumor circulating that the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 108 Chateauguay has gone bankrupt. We wish to dispel this rumor and reassure our members and the community that there is no truth to this. Like any group, we are constantly striving to improve our ability to serve our members and the community and this may sometimes require making necessary cutbacks and/or restructuring decisions. We have many upcoming events and our hall is available for rental at a reasonable rate. Please visit our web site at www.branch108.com to learn more or drop by for a visit at 39 Gilmour to check it out for yourself.

After a lengthy battle, Chateauguay Legion Branch 108 has succeeded in getting a tax exemption for 2010 and 2011, thus saving it $9,600 a year in municipal taxes, plus penalties and interest for tax in arrears amounting to some $21,000. Zitouni says the branch now owes the City $1,500 for 2009 after already raising close to $11,000 of its debt for that year.
